tvN’s new historical spy romance “100 Days of Deception” recorded an average nationwide rating of 7.6 percent for its second episode on October 11, rising from its premiere and taking first place in its time slot among cable channels, according to Nielsen Korea figures reported by Soompi.

The drama stars Kim You Jung as Lee Ga Kyeong, a skilled pickpocket who becomes involved in an undercover mission for the Korean independence movement during the Japanese colonial era. GOT7’s Park Jinyoung plays Kim Tae Woong, also known as Sato Hideo, a Korean-born interpreter whose position creates a complicated relationship between his identity, loyalties and the people around him.

The story’s 100-day framework gives the romance a ticking clock. Ga Kyeong must navigate a dangerous environment while maintaining her cover, and her connection with Tae Woong complicates a mission built around deception. That mix of historical tension, undercover work and romantic conflict gives the series several routes for building suspense.

The second-episode increase is an encouraging early signal for a new weekend drama. Ratings can fluctuate significantly during the first weeks as audiences decide whether to continue watching, so the next few episodes will be important in determining whether the series can sustain its initial momentum.

The same ratings report highlighted contrasting results elsewhere on Sunday night. KBS2’s “Love on the Menu” rose to a nationwide average of 16.3 percent, making it the day’s most-watched show among the programmes covered. Meanwhile, “A Love Other Than Yours” fell to a new series low of 1.9 percent as it began the second half of its run. JTBC’s “Fly High Butterfly” rose slightly to 2.0 percent, while Channel A’s “Dive into You” remained at 0.3 percent.

These figures should not be compared without considering each show’s channel, audience and broadcast circumstances. Still, they illustrate how differently Korean dramas can perform within the same weekend schedule.

The coming episodes will test whether “100 Days of Deception” can maintain its upward trend while deepening Ga Kyeong and Tae Woong’s complicated relationship. The series’ blend of espionage and romance gives viewers both a central mystery and a developing emotional conflict to follow.
