BIGBANG is turning its 20th anniversary into a major celebration for fans. The group has announced a special free anniversary event at Seoul’s Yeouido Hangang Park, giving fans an opportunity to celebrate two decades of BIGBANG’s music before the group launches its highly anticipated world tour.
Titled “Coupang Play X BIGBANG 20th Anniversary X Han River Collaboration,” the event is scheduled for August 19 at 8 p.m. KST at the Water Light Stage in Yeouido Hangang Park. Rather than being a conventional concert, the event is designed as an immersive celebration of BIGBANG’s history, combining music, visual art, archival content, and large-scale outdoor entertainment.
Fans attending will be taken through different chapters of the group’s career through a combination of DJ performances featuring rearranged versions of BIGBANG songs and a specially produced video documenting the group’s 20-year musical journey.
The evening will then expand into a larger visual spectacle. Organizers have prepared media art intended to bring the “BIGBANG universe” to life, accompanied by orchestral music. The celebration will conclude with a drone show and fireworks above the Han River.
The decision to make the event free adds another layer of significance. BIGBANG has spent two decades building one of the most influential legacies in K-pop, and the anniversary celebration provides an opportunity for the group to acknowledge the fans who supported them throughout that journey.
BIGBANG debuted in 2006 under YG Entertainment and went on to become one of the defining groups of the second generation of K-pop. Songs including “Lies,” “Haru Haru,” “Fantastic Baby,” “Bang Bang Bang,” and “Loser” helped establish their influence not only in Korea but across Asia and eventually the global music market.
The anniversary celebration also arrives immediately before a major new chapter. BIGBANG’s “XX : COSMOS” world tour is scheduled to begin with three concerts at Goyang Sports Complex from August 21 to 23. The concerts have already generated enormous interest, with the initial ticket sale reportedly drawing approximately 210,000 concurrent users and selling out rapidly.
The free Han River event will therefore function almost like the opening ceremony for the anniversary tour.
Reservations are being handled through the Coupang Play mobile app, with eligibility restricted to Coupang WOW members. The organizers have also introduced identity-verification measures and anti-fraud procedures to prevent ticket abuse.
For VIPs and longtime fans, this is more than a promotional event. BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary represents an extraordinary milestone for a group whose music helped shape modern K-pop.
With the Han River celebration coming on August 19 and the Goyang concerts following from August 21 to 23, BIGBANG’s anniversary week is shaping up to be one of the biggest K-pop events of the month.
