BTS Make History With Three Wins At The 2026 MTV VMAs

BTS have taken home three awards at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, winning every category in which they were nominated. The ceremony was held on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where BTS won Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for “SWIM,” as well as Best Group. The wins add another major international milestone to the group’s 2026 return.

The biggest moment came with “SWIM” taking Song of the Year. The victory makes BTS the first K-pop group to win the category, following BLACKPINK’s Rosé becoming the first K-pop artist to receive the award last year with “APT.” BTS had previously been nominated in the category in 2021 for “Dynamite,” but did not win at the time.

Their Best Group victory was also significant. This is BTS’ fifth win in the category, extending their record after they previously won four consecutive times from 2019 through 2022.

The awards cap a major year for BTS following the release of their fifth full-length album, “ARIRANG.” The group has described the album as representing a new beginning, making the VMA recognition particularly meaningful within the context of their return as a full seven-member team.

Through BIGHIT MUSIC, the members thanked ARMY for their continued support and specifically highlighted the importance of receiving Song of the Year for “SWIM.” They also emphasized that the seven members intend to continue releasing music and performing together.

The VMA results also placed BTS alongside BLACKPINK’s Lisa, who won Best Pop for her solo track “DREAM.” CORTIS were also nominated at the ceremony, receiving nominations for Best New Artist and Best K-Pop.

BTS’ VMA success adds another major achievement to the group’s 2026 comeback era. With the members now reaffirming their intention to continue working together, attention will turn toward their next music releases and group activities following the awards season.
