One of K-pop’s most iconic first-generation girl groups is officially preparing to return. Fin.K.L will make a full-group comeback for the first time in approximately 21 years, with all four original members, Lee Hyori, Ock Joo Hyun, Lee Jin and Sung Yuri, involved in preparations. GEMSTONE E&M announced the news on September 21, describing the reunion as the beginning of a new phase of activities for the legendary group.
For younger K-pop fans, Fin.K.L may be better known through their individual careers than through their original group activities. But during the late 1990s and early 2000s, they were one of the defining girl groups of the first generation of Korean idols.
Fin.K.L debuted in 1998 and quickly became one of the biggest names in Korean pop music. Their catalogue includes enduring hits such as “Blue Rain,” “To My Boyfriend,” “Forever Love” and “Now.” Their success helped establish the template for the large-scale idol girl groups that followed.
The four members eventually developed very different careers. Lee Hyori became one of Korea’s biggest solo entertainers and television personalities, while Ock Joo Hyun became an acclaimed musical-theater performer. Lee Jin moved increasingly toward acting and television, and Sung Yuri also established herself as an actress and entertainer.
Although the members reunited in 2019 for JTBC’s Camping Club, that reunion was tied to the variety program and resulted in a one-time new song rather than a sustained musical comeback.
This time, the intention is different.
GEMSTONE E&M, which is responsible for planning and managing Fin.K.L’s full-group activities, said the reunion is being prepared as “a fresh start for sustainable activities.” The agency also emphasized the group’s symbolic place in Korean popular-music history and promised that additional activities would be revealed sequentially.
That wording is particularly important. Fans are not simply getting another anniversary appearance. The announcement suggests that the four members are preparing for an actual new chapter together.
The exact release date, album format and first song have not yet been announced.
For longtime fans, however, the headline itself is already enormous: Fin.K.L are coming back.
GEMSTONE E&M says further group activities will be unveiled gradually, so fans should watch for comeback music, promotional schedules and possible appearances from all four members.
