MBC has confirmed Jang Ki Yong and Oh Jung Se as the leads of its upcoming office drama “Law of the Line,” scheduled to air during the first half of 2027. Announced on October 19, the series will explore corporate politics inside a bank, where competing factions battle for influence over management and personnel decisions.

Jang Ki Yong will play Tak Do Il, an employee of Nara Bank who lacks influential connections or an elite educational background. A graduate of a regional university, Tak has no established power base within the organisation. His advantage lies elsewhere: he can read situations, negotiate effectively and identify opportunities to challenge the existing hierarchy.

His position places him at a disadvantage in an institution where professional advancement is closely tied to relationships and internal alliances. Rather than relying on a powerful sponsor, Tak attempts to compete on his own terms, forcing him into the complicated world of corporate politics.

Oh Jung Se plays Chun Kyung Ho, the bank’s vice president overseeing its sales group. Despite having only a high school education, Chun has climbed the corporate ladder and become a leading candidate to become the bank’s next president. His career gives him considerable influence, but his ambitions put him at the centre of the struggle for the top position.

The contrast between the two leads is central to the drama. Tak represents an employee trying to break into a system that was not designed to favour him, while Chun is already a powerful insider whose rise has made him a major contender. Their interaction is likely to involve strategy, negotiation and competing ideas about how power should be used.

The production brings together director Kim Sung Yong, known for “The Veil” and “My Dearest,” and writer Eun Ki Baek. Kang Eun Kyung, who worked on “Dr. Romantic” and “The World of the Married,” will serve as the project’s creator.

Office dramas can be especially compelling when professional competition becomes personal. Here, the bank’s internal politics provide the framework for exploring ambition, class, merit and betrayal.

“Law of the Line” is scheduled for the first half of 2027. MBC has not yet announced a specific premiere date or full supporting cast, so further casting and production updates are expected.
