One of the most anticipated Korean films of 2026 has officially locked in its release schedule. On July 28, the production team behind “Possible Love“ unveiled its first official date announcement poster, confirming that the film will premiere in South Korean theaters on September 23 before launching globally on Netflix on November 6. Starring an all-star cast led by Jeon Do Yeon, Sul Kyung Gu, Zo In Sung, and Cho Yeo Jeong, the film also marks the long-awaited return of acclaimed director Lee Chang Dong, whose last feature, Burning (2018), earned international critical acclaim.
The announcement comes after Possible Love secured invitations to two of the world’s most prestigious film festivals. Before opening in Korean cinemas, the movie will make its world premiere in competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival before heading to the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for its North American premiere. The achievement continues Korean cinema’s impressive global momentum and marks Lee Chang Dong’s first appearance at the Venice Film Festival in 24 years, following the success of Oasis in 2002.
Possible Love centers on two married couples whose vastly different lives become unexpectedly intertwined. One couple consists of Mi Ok (Jeon Do Yeon), the wife of a recently laid-off worker, and her husband Ho Seok (Sul Kyung Gu), who struggles to rebuild his life after losing his job. Their quiet existence is disrupted when successful documentary filmmaker Ye Ji (Cho Yeo Jeong) begins filming a project about unemployed workers alongside her husband Sang Woo (Zo In Sung). As the documentary progresses, the relationships between the four characters become increasingly complicated, forcing each of them to confront hidden desires, emotional wounds, and uncomfortable truths about marriage, ambition, and identity.
The newly released poster offers a subtle but emotionally charged preview of the story. Rather than focusing on all four leads, the image highlights Jeon Do Yeon’s Mi Ok and Cho Yeo Jeong’s Ye Ji standing apart beneath moonlit trees at dawn. Although they face one another, a noticeable distance separates them, visually suggesting the emotional tension and contrasting lives that define the narrative. Their restrained expressions hint at unresolved conflict, while the quiet atmosphere reinforces the introspective tone that has become synonymous with Lee Chang Dong’s filmmaking.
The project has generated significant excitement not only because of its cast but also because of the filmmaker behind it. Lee Chang Dong is widely regarded as one of South Korea’s greatest directors, with acclaimed works including Peppermint Candy, Oasis, Secret Sunshine, Poetry, and Burning. His films are known for exploring complex human relationships, morality, and social issues through emotionally layered storytelling. Possible Love represents his first feature film in eight years, making its release one of the most anticipated cinematic events in Korean film. The story is also inspired by Krzysztof Kieślowski’s acclaimed television series Dekalog, further raising expectations among international film enthusiasts.
The cast itself is equally impressive. Jeon Do Yeon, one of Korea’s most celebrated actresses and a Cannes Best Actress winner, reunites with longtime collaborator Sul Kyung Gu for their fourth film together, following I Wish I Had a Wife, Birthday, and Kill Boksoon. Zo In Sung returns to the big screen after recent television successes, while Cho Yeo Jeong, internationally recognized for her Oscar-winning role in Parasite, completes the powerhouse quartet. Their combined experience and reputation have made Possible Love one of the year’s most talked-about ensemble productions.
Following its festival premieres, Possible Love will open in South Korean theaters on September 23 before expanding to select international markets and arriving worldwide on Netflix on November 6. More trailers, character posters, and promotional materials are expected in the coming weeks as the film begins its global awards-season campaign. With an acclaimed director returning after nearly a decade, a world-class cast, and invitations to both Venice and Toronto, Possible Love is already shaping up to be one of the defining Korean films of 2026.
