Netflix has unveiled the first teaser and poster for “Dead-End Job,” a mystery-horror fantasy drama starring Lee Jae Wook as a debt-ridden man who accepts a suspicious part-time job offering an astonishing 50 times the minimum hourly wage. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 30. Soompi
Lee Jae Wook plays Hyeok Jun, a man drowning in debt and desperate for a way to make money. His situation changes when he discovers an advertisement promising an unusually lucrative night shift.
The job leads him to the mysterious Spider Staffing Agency, a run-down operation headed by a strange employer played by Lee Hee Joon.
Initially skeptical, Hyeok Jun becomes interested when he learns that a convenience-store night shift pays 50 times the normal minimum wage. The promise of easy money proves difficult to resist, particularly given his financial circumstances.
But the job quickly becomes something far more dangerous.
After arriving at what appears to be an ordinary convenience store, Hyeok Jun encounters a series of increasingly disturbing events. The teaser shows him surrounded by swarming moths inside the dim store and later confronted by a bizarre clown.
The poster offers an equally grim preview, depicting Hyeok Jun bloodied and exhausted amid the wreckage of what looks like the same convenience store.
The concept combines workplace comedy with horror by taking the familiar idea of a desperate worker accepting a questionable job and pushing it to supernatural extremes.
For Lee Jae Wook, the project adds another unusual title to his filmography. He has become known for moving between romantic fantasy, historical drama and darker stories through projects such as Extraordinary You, Alchemy of Souls and The Impossible Heir.
“Dead-End Job” premieres October 30 on Netflix. The first teaser suggests that Hyeok Jun’s financial desperation will lead him into a bizarre series of increasingly dangerous night shifts, with the promised money becoming less attractive as survival becomes the priority.
