A reunion that True Beauty fans have been waiting years for could finally be happening. Actress Moon Ga Young has been offered the female lead in the upcoming tvN drama “Seorabeol Knife,” while Cha Eun Woo is currently in talks to play the male lead.
Mun Ka Young’s agency, Fantagio, confirmed on September 8 that she had received an offer and is currently reviewing it. Cha Eun Woo has also reportedly been approached for the project.
If both actors accept, the drama would reunite the pair seven years after “True Beauty,” the 2020-2021 romantic comedy that became a major international hit.
But “Seorabeol Knife” is a very different story.
The drama is a cooking-themed romance involving time travel. It follows an Italian chef who operates a one-Michelin-star restaurant and becomes transported back to Silla after encountering a 1,000-year-old prophecy hidden inside a gold-plated honey box.
Once in the past, he encounters a powerful gourmet princess who belongs to the highest Silla social class, the seonggol.
Mun Ka Young has reportedly been offered the role of Princess Deokyeong, a royal woman who dreams of becoming the first queen of the kingdom. Her character is described as deeply religious and unusually curious, with exceptional sensitivity toward incense and cuisine as well as strong artistic abilities in calligraphy and painting.
Cha Eun Woo is currently discussing the role of the Italian chef.
The project is being directed by Jang Tae Yoo, who recently helmed the hugely successful historical fantasy romance Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. That drama reportedly reached a peak nationwide rating of 17.1 percent, giving Jang Tae Yoo considerable momentum heading into his next project.
The combination of the director’s recent success and the potential Mun Ka Young-Cha Eun Woo reunion makes “Seorabeol Knife” particularly interesting.
True Beauty introduced both actors to a huge international audience and remains one of the most frequently revisited Korean high-school romances among global fans.
A reunion in a completely different genre could therefore generate enormous nostalgia while allowing both actors to demonstrate how much they have developed since 2020.
The drama is still in the casting stage, however, so nothing has been officially confirmed for either lead.
What fans can expect next: Casting decisions and additional production details are expected before tvN confirms a broadcast schedule.
