SEVENTEEN’s Jun is entering a new chapter of his solo career with his first Chinese solo EP, titled “9,” which is scheduled for release on September 28. PLEDIS Entertainment announced the project on September 24, confirming that Jun will carry out solo activities in China alongside his work as a member of SEVENTEEN.
The project represents a particularly meaningful move for Jun, who was born and raised in China before pursuing his career in South Korea. Since SEVENTEEN’s debut in 2015, he has maintained strong connections with Chinese fans while building his career as both an idol and actor.
The title “9” takes inspiration from the Chinese folklore figure known as the Nine-Lives Cat Demon, a legendary creature associated with a cat developing nine tails through spiritual cultivation before ultimately reaching immortality.
That concept gives the release a distinctly Chinese identity rather than simply presenting Jun as another K-pop member launching a conventional solo project. His background in acting also adds another dimension to the release, especially as he has increasingly taken on film and television opportunities in China.
Jun has previously released solo music and participated in SEVENTEEN’s individual-unit activities, but “9” marks a different step because it is his first Chinese-language EP as an official solo artist. The move follows his growing involvement in Chinese entertainment projects, where he has expanded beyond music.
For SEVENTEEN, Jun’s solo activities also come during a period when individual members have increasingly been exploring their own creative directions while remaining connected to the group. Members have released solo albums, mixtapes and OSTs, while others have pursued acting, variety and fashion activities.
The EP therefore offers fans a chance to see a different side of Jun’s artistry while reconnecting him with the Chinese entertainment market.
“9” will be released on September 28, and fans can expect more promotional material surrounding the Chinese solo debut in the coming days. The folklore-inspired concept should also give Jun’s project a visual identity distinctly different from SEVENTEEN’s group releases.
