The weekend K-drama ratings race has delivered another strong result, with JTBC’s “The Apartment Job“ ending its run on its highest rating yet while tvN’s “Spooky In Love“ continued climbing to another personal best. The latest Nielsen Korea figures put both dramas firmly among the weekend’s most talked-about series. Soompi’s current feed lists the ratings report among its top stories from the past several hours.
“The Apartment Job” has followed Park Hae Kang, played by Ji Sung, a former gang boss who attempts to win the presidency of his apartment complex’s residents’ council. His motivation is hardly civic-minded. He becomes interested in the enormous reserve fund hidden within the apartment complex and sees the election as a way to gain access to it.
What begins as an unusual comedy-crime setup gradually develops into a larger story involving corruption, community politics, money, and Park Hae Kang’s attempt to manipulate the system while unexpectedly becoming involved with the residents around him.
The finale’s ratings mark a satisfying conclusion for the series, giving the drama its strongest performance during its final episode.
Meanwhile, “Spooky In Love“ continues moving in the opposite direction, with its audience growing as the drama progresses. The series stars Park Eun Bin and Yang Se Jong in an unusual supernatural romance inspired by the 2011 film Spellbound.
Park Eun Bin plays Cheon Yeo Ri, a hotel heiress who can see ghosts, while Yang Se Jong portrays Ma Gang Wook, a prosecutor who is terrified of supernatural phenomena despite becoming increasingly entangled in Yeo Ri’s unusual world.
The combination of romance, comedy, and supernatural elements has helped the drama carve out its own identity in an increasingly crowded television schedule. Its latest rating increase suggests that viewers who gave the series a chance during its opening episodes are continuing to return.
The ratings battle also demonstrates how dramatically the Korean weekend television landscape can shift. A drama does not necessarily need to begin with blockbuster numbers to become a strong performer. Consistent growth can be just as important, particularly when viewers begin recommending a series through online communities and social media.
For The Apartment Job, the journey has now reached its conclusion. For Spooky In Love, however, the story is only beginning.
The supernatural romance will continue airing as viewers discover whether Yeo Ri and Gang Wook can navigate both their complicated feelings and the ghosts surrounding them.
With one drama signing off at a ratings peak and another continuing its upward trajectory, the weekend K-drama race remains very much alive.
